Joshua Osih sur la tombe de Rubem Um NyobéEseka, September 13, 2025 – At the dawn of the commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the assassination of Ruben Um Nyobé, a historic figure in the struggle for Cameroon’s independence and reunification, the President of the SDF (Social Democratic Front) and candidate in the October 12, 2025 presidential election, Joshua Osih, quietly visited the grave of the National Hero in Eseka, Centre Region.

Alone, away from cameras and official ceremony, Mr. Osih chose to pay his respects in silence and serenity at the resting place of the nationalist leader, executed on September 13, 1958 in the forests of Boumnyebel by the French army. This highly symbolic gesture took place only a few hours before he was scheduled to chair a meeting of his party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Yaoundé.

“This powerful gesture, imbued with respect and remembrance, resonates as a bridge between two generations of struggle: that of Ruben Um Nyobé, pioneer of independence, cut down for having dreamed of a free, just, and sovereign Cameroon, and that of Joshua Osih, bearer of an assumed political rupture, committed to a Cameroon reconciled with its ideals, its people, and its institutions,” explained Gabriel Ngomsi, SDF Electoral District President (PCE) of Dibombari.

By inscribing his political vision in the continuity of this historical legacy, the SDF candidate emphasizes a program aimed at completing Um Nyobé’s unfinished work. His priorities notably include the consolidation of national sovereignty, the definitive resolution of the conflict in the Anglophone regions, reconciliation among Cameroonians, and the improvement of living conditions for all citizens.

“The SDF, faithful to its progressive roots, reaffirms its commitment to a credible alternative, rooted in the memory of the martyrs and oriented toward the future,” added Gabriel Ngomsi, member of the Chairman’s delegation.

Joshua Osih’s visit to Eseka, a major site of national memory, thus sets the tone for a presidential campaign he intends to place under the banner of patriotism, remembrance, and reconciliation.
