Breadcrumbs

Joshua OsihIn a Cameroon plagued by widespread and multi-faceted corruption, decaying morals, personal ambitions, inflated egos, partisan squabbles and a fragmented opposition, one voice stands out. A voice that is discreet, calm, poised and determined. That of Joshua Osih, President of the Social Democratic Front (SDF).

At a time when Cameroon's political horizon seems saturated by sterile debates and by individuals and leaders more concerned with their own ambitions and image than with the general interest, Joshua Osih recently made a rare statement, almost revolutionary in our context:

“If for any reason my candidacy were to be rejected, I would not hold the Republic hostage around my person. I would convene a NEC the following day to organize an extraordinary congress to appoint a new candidate to represent the party. The Republic does not end with me.”

These words are a radical break from the political practices Cameroonians have sadly become used to. They are the mark of a statesman, not a power-hungry politician. In a country where power is often viewed as a hereditary right or private property, Osih proposes a different model: one based on duty and responsibility, not the obsession with domination.

A Rare Republican Spirit in Cameroon’s Political Arena

This posture recalls that of Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, who stepped aside for the collective victory of Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Osih seems to follow that same logic: putting Cameroon above his personal ambitions.

This is not a rejection of political ambition. It is a deep commitment to democratic values. Osih affirms:

“I’m proud of the level of democracy in my party, and I’m proud that the interests of the Republic come before selfish interests.”

Such a stance is refreshing in a political space corrupted by self-interest, backstabbing, and a constant fear of seeing a credible alternative to the over 40-year-old regime of Paul Biya emerge.

Modesty, Calm, and Consistency: The Qualities That Unite

Joshua Osih is not a man of media noise. He doesn’t dominate talk shows. He doesn’t chase after scandals or shout hollow slogans.
He consistently demonstrates a republican calm, genuine modesty, and a quiet strength that inspires trust.

In a time where populism is as divisive as it is seductive, Osih embodies a subtle but solid style — one capable of reassuring disillusioned voters while extending a hand to other change-driven forces.

He is not trying to shine for himself, but to serve a shared cause: that of a Cameroon reconciled with its values, its youth, and its future.

A Real Opportunity for a United Front in 2025

Osih’s statement is also an invitation to the broader opposition. It suggests that there is a real path out of the current political deadlock — a path where change becomes possible, if and only if the country is placed above personal ambition.

And what if Joshua Osih is exactly the bridge builder, the compromise candidate, the unifier we’ve all been waiting for?
A man capable of leading a credible coalition against a tired, aging regime — without overpowering or dismissing others.

What If We Tried Something Different?

To those who despair of real change in 2025, let's ask ourselves one simple question: what more are we looking for?

In a country where values are constantly turned upside down, where the Republic is too often sacrificed on the altar of ego, Joshua Osih shows us a different path.

A path of balance, clarity, and responsibility.

Yes, we are going to love the 2025 campaign, if it is led by men and women who believe in the Republic before believing in their own glory.

Joshua Osih is one of them.
